I’m writing this customer testimonial to you to thank you and your staff for furthering my education on the low standards of water quality in New Castle County De at this time. I have worked for the Delaware Audubon Society over the last 10 years and have had ample opportunity to study Delaware’s fragile ecosystem, including the nature of the water flowing throughout the state.

Historically speaking, the Delaware River and its’ subsequent commercial ports have supported a tremendous amount of petrochemical activities, the abuse of which has lead to serious water quality issues.  The Delaware River, over the past 40-50 years, has served as a chemical waste dump. So much so that many species of fish like shad had either left the river or perished in it.  Delaware, New Jersey, and PA have taken tremendous strides in cleaning up the river over the past 10 years, resulting in the re-introduction of fish species that heretofore were missing from this vital ecosystem.

This naturally leads one to worry about the quality of both aquifer-based well water and treated water here in Delaware.  I have known for quite some time that the EPA considered Delaware’s water to be second or third worst in the country behind parts of New York City and Philly.  Any source of drinking water here in Delaware must be purified at the pump so to- speak, and your system is a great system of removing the chemicals/metals from the water.  I have trouble understanding why anybody in their right mind would not look to install a system like this in the home.  In Fact, Im puzzled as to why systems like this aren’t a natural part of any new home construction plans here in Delaware.
To simply turn to an expensive solution like bottled water for drinking and cooking alone is ludicrous when you consider the cost/gallon of bottled versus home treated water.  Since these home treatment systems last many years, with merely of $5 block of salt required per month, the cost of treating your water at the source is certainly discounted over paying for these bottled water solutions.  At least by treating your water at the source, you can rest assured that your water is purified at all times.  Bottled water is fraught with problems, especially when you consider that the sources of the water and the quality of the water is not reported by the bottler to the customer.  What winds up happening is that the individual merely purchases someone else’s tap water, at a profit to the bottler.  By having the bottled water tested as we did, the individual will necessarily conclude that treating the water at the source in the home is the optimal solution.

This, of course, does not touch on the issue of bathing/showing in water that contains chemicals the body can and does absorb through the skin, like chlorine.  Delaware’s treated water necessarily contains a high content of chlorine to adequately kill rich nutrients present in the water as a result of agricultural runoff and other environmental factors.

In summary, my wife and I are extremely pleased to have installed a water treatment system in our home.  We can both sleep better at night knowing that a one-time, up front investment in a system like this will provide decades of benefits to our family‘s health and partially negate the chemical legacy of our wonderful state.

Sincerely
Mark B. Martell, CCM
